As Russia, at the behest of its president Vladimir Putin, continues to bombard Ukraine, its neighboring nation filled with former countrymen, the civilian death toll continues to rise. Sadly, that includes a growing number of children, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky reported that 52 children have been counted among the thousands of civilian deaths that have resulted from Russia’s relentless assault.
“I will never forgive this,” Zelensky said Wednesday when discussing the young innocent lives that were cut short by the violent incursion by Russian forces.
The sad tally comes on the same day that the United States Congress came to a bipartisan agreement to provide $13.6 billion towards pushing back against the growing humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian aggression.
Over 2 million people have already fled the war zone that Ukraine has become for neighboring countries, according to a United Nations report.
Russia continues to deny targeting civilians in their assault, which the country has deemed a “special military operation” to disarm Ukraine and arrest those holding Ukraine’s political positions of power, calling them “neo-Nazis.”
Those denials come despite multiple reports of schools and hospitals being attacked, including allegations that children were buried under rubble Wednesday morning when missiles leveled a children’s hospital in Mariupol. Images and video of the hospital’s extensive damage were shared on Twitter by Zelensky.
