Lt. Gov. John Fetterman clears air on resurfaced criticism of Braddock jogger pursuit

BRADDOCK (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman opened up in a blog post Thursday to clarify the events of what he calls "an episode from 8 years ago."

Criticisms from Fetterman's self-proclaimed adversaries have made the situation out to be racially-charged, but Fetterman took to Medium to set the record straight.

It started with gunshots, and with that, Fetterman explained that it wasn't anything new.

He had heard gunfire from his Braddock residence before.

Part of Fetterman's Braddock mayoral campaign revolved around gunfire and how he wanted to reduce gun violence in the area.

But in 2013, when Fetterman and his son heard the alleged shots, Fetterman rushed his son to safety and began looking for a perpetrator.

He stated that he only saw one individual running away from the vicinity, and he was decked out in a full sweatsuit and mask.

"I didn't know what race that individual was, or even their gender," Fetterman explained in his blog post.

Fetterman ultimately called 911.

But Fetterman admitted that he also attempted to intercept the shooter, with his own gun in tow.

Fetterman didn't realize until later that the individual he was pursuing in his truck was a Black man who was jogging.

But Fetterman asserted that he never pointed his gun and didn't know what race the individual was.
