Holiday travel could be a little dicey as we head toward the end of the week into Christmas.
AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham tells Larry and Marty we could start to see a wintry mix as early as Thursday morning.
“Ice, freezing rain, sleet, perhaps a bit of snow as early as the Thursday morning commute,” said Buckingham.
After that it goes downhill even more from there.
Buckingham says an “all-out wintry mix” with the intensity picking up throughout the day.
Then going into Friday, we could switch back to all rain as warm air comes through before the bitter cold arrives.
While we could have some snow showers on Christmas Eve, it is not expected to snow on Christmas Day.
The Arctic air mass will bring temperatures down into the teens and single digits over the Christmas weekend, getting down to 4 degrees on Christmas Eve.
Buckingham says we may struggle to get to 20 degrees over those days, it will be the coldest air of the season by far.
So if you’re traveling to grandmother’s house for Christmas, make sure you’re bundled up.
And those going to Acrisure Stadium on Saturday evening will need extra layers. Temperatures will be in the low single-digits with real feels well below zero.
It would be one of the coldest Christmas holidays on record.
