On Tuesday, Governor Tom Wolf announced that all COVID-19 mitigation efforts will be lifted on May 31.

All except the mask mandate, which will be lifted when 70 percent of adults are fully vaccinated.

With the ending of mitigations efforts, comes the lifting of restrictions on how many people can attend an indoor or outdoor gathering.

Pirates President Travis Williams says, “Today’s announcement is exciting and welcomed news for the Pirates, our fans and our community. We are thrilled to be able to open up more opportunities for fans to safely reconnect through the Pittsburgh summertime tradition of Pirates baseball. This is another major step for all of us in overcoming this pandemic.”

Williams adds that in the coming days new details will be announced concerning how many fans will be able to attend PNC Park beginning May 31.

While it’s likely a significant increase of fans will be announced, masks will still be required inside the stadium, due to the continued mask mandate.

Williams says the organization is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated so that they can lift the mask mandate.

PNC Park is currently operating at 25 percent capacity, or roughly 7,500 fans.
