ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - As XFL fans are anxiously waiting to see if the St. Louis BattleHawks return, a partnership between the city and new league ownership has begun.

Explore St. Louis president Kitty Ratcliffe joined KMOX on Monday and said she's already had discussions with the league about XFL games returning to The Dome at America's Center – where the BattleHawks played two home games before the league folded.

"It was very successful for us, we loved having it, St. Louis loved having it, our team loved having it," Ratcliffe says. "We're hopeful that they're able to get the league restarted in 2020, which is what they are talking about."

The St. Louis BattleHawks topped the XFL attendance and merchandise sales. They were expecting a crowd of about 45,000 for a home game against the Los Angeles Wildcats.

But the league couldn't recover after the COVID-19 pandemic forced games to be canceled.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, along with his business partner and ex-wife Dany Garcia, and Redbird Capital Partners purchased the league for $15 million this summer.
