ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Ozzie Smith knows as well as anyone what it's like to be a beloved member of the St. Louis Cardinals. He explained what it may soon be like for the newest superstar in St. Louis – Nolan Arenado.

Smith was a guest on MLB Network and asked what going to St. Louis will be like for the eight-time Gold Glove and five-time All-Start third baseman.

"I think the first day, Opening Day, he will have probably more butterflies in his stomach than he has ever had in his life," Smith says. "Because he will get a standing ovation here that will last for a while because I think they know that his coming here gives them a much better chance to win."

It's still not clear if there will be fans allowed in Busch Stadium for the home opener on April 8, but we all know Smith is right that a very long standing ovation is coming his way on the first chance fans get.

"All he has to do is be Nolan," Smith says. "All he has to do is continue to do what he's done to this point. Which has been spectacular. He's coming to a city where he's going to be appreciated. They're going to look forward to it."

The first chance for fans to see Arenado in person as a Cardinals will be later this month at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium (RDC), where the Cardinals play their Spring Training games. The stadium already announced fans will be allowed in the stadium and tickets went on sale this week.

Last month, Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III said he's hoping Busch Stadium will be able to allow up to 12,000 fans into the ballpark for the home opener.
