ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It's been more than a week since five boys broke out of a juvenile detention center in north St. Louis and only one has been caught. The teens overpowered some unarmed staff members and stole two cars in their escape on July 3.
Police say a 13-year-old boy has been arrested in St. Louis County, but two 15-year-olds, and a 16- and 17-year-old are all still at large. Laws prohibit authorities from releasing any other specific information about the boys, including what they were charged with. At the time of the escape, police said one of the boys was considered armed and dangerous, according to KSDK.
One of the guards suffered an injury to his eyes after the boys poured bleach on him during the escape, according to reports. Both of the stolen cars from the Hogan Street Regional Youth Center facility have been found.
This is the second time in recent history that this has happened at Hogan Street. The last time was in 2017 when nine boys broke out after pushing a staff member down a stairwell, stealing her keys and jumping over a 12-foot fence, the Post-Dispatch reports.
St. Louis Police are also searching for an escaped detainee from the City Justice Center. The handcuffed, 32-year old detainee was being walked into the hospital by police around 1:30 Tuesday morning when he ran and got away from police.
