Woman hit by car, killed walking to vote in St. Louis County

AFFTON, Mo. (KMOX/AP) - A pedestrian who was reportedly on her way to vote was struck by a vehicle and killed outside a polling place in St. Louis County.

St. Louis County Police say the woman, 85, was trying to cross the road near the Affton Community Center around 5:45 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene just after 6 a.m. and performed life-saving treatment on the woman, who was transported to a local hospital, but pronounced dead shortly after.

Traffic was restricted on MacKenzie Read, south of Reavis Road, as the investigation continues. Police spokesman Sgt. Benjamin Granda says the driver, who is 26-years-old, remained on the scene and cooperated with police.

The victim's name has not been released.
