St. Louis close to surpassing homicide record with at least 261 people killed in 2020

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis City is on track to come close to, or surpass an all-time homicide record set back in 1993.

As of the morning of December 28, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is reporting 261 homicide cases in 2020 – just six short of tying the record of 267 set 27 years ago.

The three latest killings happened within 12 hours on Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning.

A man in his 40s was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the 4500 block of Newberry Terrace. Police say he found lying on the ground and pronounced dead at the scene around 2:30 in the afternoon.

The second death, happened around 6 p.m. on South Broadway near Davis, a man found not breathing or conscious.

And before 1:30 a.m. Monday, a third man was shot to death in the 3400 block of Goodfellow by Selber Court.

No arrests have been made in the incidents.
