ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A relative of St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones was among the two women killed in a domestic abuse incident in Ferguson on Saturday night.

In a press conference on Monday, Jones announced that her 27-year-old cousin Mia was one of the victims. She spoke about vetoing a federal relief spending plan and crime in the area.

"Recently it hit home to me. The double murder in Ferguson was my cousin, Mia. She was just 27 years old. She was two months pregnant," Jones says. "It troubles me because we're at a point in our society where they feel like the only answer is a gun. There are more answers to solving our problems with each other than shooting each other."

The killings happened on Saturday around 7 p.m. when police say two people forced their way into a house in Ferguson. Investigators said the break-in led to a fight between the intruders and residents and ended with two women in the home being shot to death.

Police haven't announced any arrests as of Monday afternoon and the names of the victims were not yet released.

Police said they believe they know who at least one person involved is, according to The Associated Press.
