LISTEN: Former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens ‘evaluating’ political future regarding US Senate

(KMOX) - Former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens left the door open to possibly run for a seat in Congress in 2022. He was on with our partner station, 97.1 FM Talk, and asked specifically about going after Sen. Roy Blunt's seat next year.

"Yeah Mark, look, I am evaluating right now what I’m going to be doing this year," Greitens says. "I can tell you that I have always loved fighting for the people of Missouri, serving the people of Missouri. Loved doing it, when I was a Navy Seal, when I was leading The Mission Continues, loved fighting every day as governor of the people of Missouri."

Greitens was on The Marc Cox Show on Monday morning to share his reaction to CPAC 2021 and shares his thoughts on the future of American politics.

Cox asked about the recent speculation that Greitens may challenge Blunt, in the 2022 election.

The former governor isn’t ready to commit to a primary challenge, but adds, "I do think Missouri needs strong leadership ... voters in Missouri deserved leaders in the Senate who will vote for them."

In June of last year, documents were filed with the Missouri Ethics Committee that appeared to show Greitens filed to run for office in 2024.

Greitens was indicted on an invasion-of-privacy charge in February 2018. He was accused of taking a compromising photo of a woman in St. Louis without her consent. It happened while he was having an extramarital affair in 2015, before he was elected.

The criminal charges were dropped when Greitens resigned in June 2018.

Greitens faced another felony charge in St. Louis, when accused of providing his political fundraiser with the donor list of his veterans charity.

The Missouri Ethics Commission issued a ruling on a campaign ethics investigation, saying it found “probable cause” that Greitens’ campaign broke the law, but also “found no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Eric Greitens, individually.”

Greitens said the ruling “fully exonerated” him.
