LOS ANGELES (KNX) – After the Lakers' loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, LeBron James said he has “a lot to think about” regarding whether he will be retiring.

“For me personally going forward with the game of basketball, I got a lot to think about,” he said at a press conference.

Trevor Lane, the host of the Lakers Nation podcast, said he would be surprised if James, whos played 20 seasons in the NBA, retired.

“I mean, he did say last night that he still considers himself to be better than 90 or 95% of the NBA, which I think is accurate,” Lane told L.A. Morning News on KNX. “I really think this was just the weight of the long season, a disappointing loss, the emotion behind that coming into play. He's also got a foot injury that he's managing may have to have surgery this offseason and he's got an MRI pending for that. I think it's all of that combining to have him, you know, questioning all of this.”

Another reason Lane says a retirement does not seem very likely – James’ desire to play with his son, Bronny.

“That’s been something that he's been saying for years now that he wants to play with Bronny, his son, who can enter the NBA next summer in 2024,” Lane noted. “So assuming that's still a goal of his, again, more evidence to suggest that this is not truly the end of LeBron’s career, but we are getting there.”

In the Monday night press conference, James did touch on his earlier statements regarding playing with his son in the NBA.

"I've done what I've had to do in this league, and my son is going to take his journey and whatever his journey, however his journey lays out, he's going to do what's best for him, “ he said. "And as his dad, and his mom, Savannah, and his brother and sister, we're going to support him in whatever he decides to do. So, just because that's my aspiration or my goal, doesn't mean it's his, and I'm absolutely OK with that."

James, 38, has two more years left in his contract with the Lakers, according to ESPN. The last time he and the Lakers won an NBA championship was in 2020.
