EAST HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - Two firefighters were taken to a hospital for heat-related illness Tuesday while battling a greater-alarm blaze that damaged a vacant townhouse in the East Hollywood area.
Crews sent to the 4400 block of West Clinton Street at about 11:15 a.m. extinguished the flames in about two hours, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
With temperatures in the 90-degree range, the two firefighters were hospitalized for "heat-related illness," Stewart said. Their conditions were not immediately available.
Some crews were expected to remain on scene "for an extended overhaul operation requiring rotating schedules due to the extreme heat," Stewart said. "Drivers are advised to avoid the area through the afternoon."
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
