LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Three additional cases of the Omicron variant have been reported in Los Angeles County, according to a Wednesday statement shared by health officials, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases related to the variant to 18 in the county.
Two of the three newly infected people have not traveled, the department said. The third recently traveled "domestically" the department added, but did not disclose whether the travel was in or out of state.

All three individuals are said to be fully vaccinated and experiencing either mild illness or no symptoms at all, the department said, adding that all close contacts have been identified and contacted.
“These latest cases of the Omicron variant in L.A. County underscore our need to be cautious and prudent as we enter the holiday season,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health.
“All indications are that Omicron can spread rapidly among both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Early data suggests that many of those fully vaccinated do not experience serious illness, reminding us that one of the most critical steps to take right now is to urgently get vaccinated if not yet protected or boosted as soon as you are due for the additional dose."
Ferrer added that COVID-19 vaccines are likely to provide "much needed protection against severe illness associated with Omicron" and said they are already known to provide protection against infection and disease associated with the Delta variant that still dominates across the county.
