BEVERLY HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KNX) - An agreement was reached Monday between the city of Beverly Hills and Beverly Hills Firefighters’ Association regarding COVID-19 vaccination exemptions.

The 18 employees granted vaccination exemptions for medical and religious reasons must participate in daily COVID-19 tests and wear "enhanced" protective equipment when interacting with medical patients, according to a statement shared by the city.

In December, two Beverly Hills firefighters filed a lawsuit against the city over the Los Angeles County COVID-19 vaccination mandate for healthcare workers. The lawsuit alleged that eight out of at least 22 firefighters questioned in September were denied religious exemptions, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“I am pleased that a consensus has been reached and the community of Beverly Hills will receive the highest level of service it deserves,” said Fire Chief Greg Barton.
