At around 2 p.m., the south lawn of the L.A. City Hall was host to hundreds of people both for and against vaccine mandates. The “choose freedom march” was a protest against “medical tyranny, mandatory vaccinations and vaccine passports,” according to the organizers.

A fight then broke out between the anti-vaxxers and a counter-protest group “No Safe Space for Fascists” that was responding to “violent anti-vaxxers,” organizers said.

Those fighting against vaccine mandates carried American flags, pro-Trump memorabilia, and signs calling for “medical freedom,” The Los Angeles Times reported.

A man was hospitalized with a stab wound according to the LAPD, no arrests have been made. The police also said that the investigation is ongoing.

Anti-mask protesters attacked one reporter on the scene for KPCC radio. While walking out of the park near City Hall, he was seen being screamed at and kicked, the LA Times reported.

Social media posts showed the altercations, which left many bloody and screaming.

In the video, someone can be heard yelling “Unmask them!” to get photos of their faces, and the crowd can then be heard chanting “USA” before the police showed up.

The protest is assumed to be in response to the announcement on Friday from LA Public Schools Superintendent Megan Reilly’s Friday announcement that all district employees would be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 15, ABC 7 reported.

The L.A. City Council also recently voted to have the city’s attorney draft an ordinance which would require proof of vaccination for public indoor spaces.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the requirement for submitting proof of vaccination or otherwise testing weekly on Wednesday.
