RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KNX) — Police arrested two San Bernardino County men for their role in a dating app scam and attack last summer in Riverside. The attack happened around 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2021, in the 3900 block of Iowa Avenue, just west of the 215 Freeway and UC Riverside.

The victim told police he met just one of the suspects on a commonly used dating app and arranged to meet in person that day. During the meeting at his apartment though, he said a second suspect broke into his home and, with the first suspect, robbed him at gunpoint.

Both men got away before police arrived and were not found during "an extensive area check," the Riverside Police Department said in a statement.

In the five months since the armed robbery, RPD said detectives continued to scour through evidence to find the duo responsible. Ultimately, they found Julio Salinas and Carlos Marin.

Salinas, 20, of Highland, Calif. was located and arrested as he left his place of work in Riverside. Marin, 21, of Colton, Calif. was located by RPD's Post Release & Accountability Team (PACT) at his home and arrested.

Both were arrested on Jan. 25 and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for home invasion robbery, conspiracy, and weapons charges.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the robbery and arrests is asked to contact Detective Daniel Macias at (951) 826-5396 or DMacias@RiversideCA.gov.

Following the arrest of the two suspects, RPD suggested that anyone using dating apps to meet up with strangers research their potential dates before ever meeting up with them.
