LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that killed one person and injured three others in Northridge on Saturday.

According to the LAPD, the deceased victim, 60, was hired to paint over gang graffiti on the side of a business on Van Alden Avenue. At around 12:30 p.m., a man in a white sedan pulled up and shot him several times with a semiautomatic handgun. The victim later died at the hospital.

Three other people in the vicinity were also shot, the LAPD said. Two underwent surgery for their injuries, while one was treated and released the same day.

On Sunday, detectives arrested a suspect in the shooting: 24-year-old Jamal Jackson of Panorama City.

The LAPD says nearby surveillance footage showed Jackson exiting his white Toyota Camry. He allegedly approached the victims on foot, fired at them multiple times, then ran back to his car and sped away.

Detectives from Operations-Valley Bureau Homicide Unit, LAPD/FBI Fugitive and US Marshals Task Force located and arrested Jackson in Ontario, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told KNX News. Jackson’s white Toyota Camry was also located and recovered as evidence.

Jackson was booked on suspicion of murder and is currently being held without bail.

Anyone with additional information on the shooting is asked to call Detective Gabe Bucknell at (818) 374-1928.
