BEVERLY HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Officers with the Beverly Hills Police Department were involved in a stand-off Saturday evening with the driver of a van who was later found deceased in his car.

The department said it happened around 6:30 p.m. after dispatch received multiple calls regarding “a van causing a traffic hazard in the area of Wilshire and Linden.”

When officers tried to talk to the driver, the driver reportedly refused to cooperate with officers and drove off with police cars following him. The van reportedly ran the red light at Wilshire and Rodeo before making an abrupt stop.

“The driver then made clear attempts to secrete himself inside the van by placing aluminum foil and other items on the windows,” the department tweeted.

Beverly Hills SWAT responded as well but were unable to speak with the driver.

After being unable to communicate with the driver, SWAT officers went in the van and found the driver "unresponsive", the department said. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was declared dead on the scene.

His identity and cause of death unknown at this time.

The incident is under investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department.
