LOS ANGELES (KNX) - Boulders were placed on the sidewalks in a Koreatown neighborhood after homeless encampments were cleaned out.

Several news outlets reported about the two dozen boulders that are blocking the walkway to Shatto Park. Neighbors in the area are unsure how the boulders got there, let alone who put them there.

“Literally, one night, overnight, they were gone and these boulders were here. So, I have no idea who did it or where it came from,” said Christy Campos, a neighbor in the area, told CBS L.A.

While some neighbors, like Campos, feel bad for what has happened, others say the boulders make the neighborhood feel safer.

"I agree, you don't want homeless outside your apartment complex,” one resident told Fox 11. “Nothing [against] them, but a lot of these guys have mental problems. That's the number one problem right there. They don't have anyone to look after them, they're just on the street. We have so much money, but we're not putting it toward housing for the homeless."

In a statement to CBS L.A., Kathy Katona, the 10th Council District caretaker wrote:

“Our office was recently made aware of the boulders placed on S. Westmoreland Ave in Koreatown. This area is new to the 10th District as a result of the recent redistricting process at the City. We are working the relevant City departments to determine the appropriate next steps.”
