Boyle Heights hit-and-run victim identified

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles County authorities on Tuesday identified a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Boyle Highs over the weekend.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Francisco Rosas Garcia, the L.A. County Coroner's office said.

The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday in the area near Whittier Boulevard and Esperanza Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Garcia was walking northbound in the crosswalk on Esperanza when he was hi by a westbound Ford Fusion sedan.

The Ford's driver then fled the scene. Police had no year or color description for the vehicle.

Paramedics later pronounced Garcia dead at the scene. The corner reported he died of multiple blunt-force injuries suffered from the collision.
