LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A Cal State Los Angeles professor and Black Lives Matter leader was removed by campus police from the mayoral debate Sunday night.

Dr. Melina Abdullah, who is a professor of the university’s Department of Pan-African Studies, said she was in attendance of the mayoral debate and claimed someone called the cops of her.
“Today I attempted to watch the mayoral debate held on the campus where I’ve taught for 20 years. As I waited for it to start, the white (Pat Brown Institute) director called the police on me,” she said. “He and each of the candidates watched as I was brutally removed.”
She shared video taken by Los Angeles Times reporter Jeong Park of her being removed from the auditorium. She is heard yelling, “You’re hurting me! You’re hurting me! You’re hurting me! Karen Bass, Kevin de León, Mike Feurer, they’re hurting me! This is a public university.”
KABC said Abdullah entered the venue without a ticket.
Abdullah told the L.A. Times that the public wasn’t allowed inside the theater during the debate. She also said she was not arrested following her removal from the theater.
The university has not released a full statement regarding the incident, but told multiple outlets it would provide one following a full review.
