A teen's recent drug overdose death in an LA juvenile hall marks the latest in a series of problems at the county-run facilities.

In a conversation with KNX reporter Margaret Carrero, Interim Chief Probation Officer Guillermo Viera Rosa shared his plan to prevent this kind of thing from happening again, saying, "We have responded with all of the resources we have at disposal in the county."

Since his arrival, the interim chief says they have implemented several changes in security, including a no cell phone policy and increased searches throughout the facilities. They have also sought help from other law enforcement departments to get it all done.

Due to non-compliance with state regulations, it's possible that a state board could order the county to shut down the Barry J. Nidorf and Central facilities as early as next week.

After conducting his own assessment, Viera Rosa says there is a better location to house the youth – Los Padrinos. He says work has already begun, and they would like to make the change as quickly as possible.

Along with leading the probation department, Viera Rosa is also tasked with restructuring LA County's juvenile operations.
