LOS ANGELES (KNX) - A 16-year-old star basketball player was gunned down after a party in South Los Angeles Saturday night.

During a vigil at Crenshaw High School Sunday night, Quincy Reese Jr. was remembered as a promising student and athlete who had a bright future ahead of him. He recently finished his junior year with a 3.4 grade point average, and was already being scouted by 58 college basketball teams, his family said.

Reese’s father, Quincy Reese Sr., dropped his son off at the 77 Lounge on South Western Avenue for a party with his friends and teammates on Saturday night. According to KTLA, reports suggest the teens had rented out the venue for their party.

Reese Sr. told KCAL he thought his son would be safe there, since the party was full of people he knew and trusted.

Police responded to a report of shots fired near the venue around 11:45 Saturday night. They discovered Reese suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information about a suspect or motive was available.

Reese Sr. said someone has been posting about his son’s killing on social media. He hopes whoever is making the posts will come forward.
