LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Heidi Marston, the executive director for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, announced her resignation on Monday.
Marston made the announcement via Twitter and on a blog post.

“This decision did not come easily but was the right thing to do,” she said. “LAHSA and our system partners work miracles every day and unfortunately, they will continue to hit a wall until there are fundamental shifts made in the way we address homelessness in L.A. and across the country.”
Her blog post included a lengthy explanation behind her reason for leaving. She cited lack of funding and control over certain decisions behind her decision to leave.
“…In our current system, organizations like the one I lead, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), are not given control over regulatory or policy decisions, service providers remain underfunded, and dedicated front-line employees of non-profit organizations and government entities are hamstrung by rules, red tape, and bureaucracy,” she said.
"We have designed the crisis we are experiencing,” Marston added.
Marston has been LAHSA’s executive director since June 2020, according to LAist. Her last day will be May 27.
LAHSA helps to coordinate housing and services for the homeless in L.A. County.
