TARZANA (CNS) - A fire was burning today on the grounds of a business in Tarzana, but no structures were threatened, authorities said.
Firefighters were sent to Synthetic Grass Depot, in the 19300 block of West Ventura Boulevard, about 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment of a minor injury, the LAFD reported.
"Firefighters are applying heavy streams to a large, outside fire ... which is not threatening any structures," LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart said in a 6:30 a.m.
statement. "Due to the depth of the fire within the materials, LAFD Heavy Equipment is responding to assist in moving the pile so the water can effectively reach all pockets of fire."
The firefighter was injured when a "civilian vehicle" ran over a 4- inch-diameter fire hose, Stewart said.
"Due to the location of the nearest fire hydrant to an incident, it is sometimes necessary ... to cross streets with (a) large diameter supply line," Stewart said. "This serves as a reminder to never cross over a fire department hose line. Fortunately this was a minor injury but the potential for life-altering injuries is very real."
Commuters were advised to avoid the area of Ventura Boulevard between Tampa and Shirley avenues while firefighters work to douse the flames.
