SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KNX) — Authorities were investigating a possible act of arson after several cars and a carport were burned in a large fire in Santa Clarita Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at around 1:30 a.m. in the 27300 block of Camp Plenty Road. Los Angeles County firefighters who arrived on the scene shortly after found several vehicles engulfed in flames.

The fire had spread to a carport structure before being extinguished by firefighters about 30 minutes later.
Nearby residential properties were evacuated as crews worked to put out the flames. An L.A. County Fire Department spokesperson said eight vehicles were destroyed by the fire, and at least eight others others severely damaged from heat.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, but an arson team has been called to the scene.
