LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KNX) — Fire crews worked through the night and into the morning battling a wildfire that broke out in Cleveland National Forest on Wednesday.

As of Thursday morning, firefighters were still building and maintaining containment lines to slow the spread of the blaze near the Riverside-Orange County line that has already burned through some 550 acres of woodland.

Crews included U.S. Forest Service, Orange County, and CAL FIRE firefighters.

The Jim Fire broke out shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Trabuco Ranger District in the Holy Jim Canyon area, according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. The fire was believed to have sparked in a drainage bottom and spread uphill.

Ground crews equipped with bulldozers will continue to work to expand those lines Thursday as water-dispensing helicopters help to extinguish hot spots.

The fire has not threatened any homes or structures thus far, fire authorities said.

The blaze was about 15 percent contained as of Thursday morning.
