
MALIBU, Calif. (KNX) — Los Angeles and Ventura county firefighters rescued 27 people stranded at Leo Carrillo State Beach campgrounds on Thursday. Creek overflow had trapped the campers, blocking them from reaching higher ground.
L.A. County fire officials responded ot the scene shortly before 4:30 a.m.
"We had some campers that were trapped, unable to make it higher ground, due to fast-moving water," said Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Ron Haralson. "Their vehicles were flooded up to the doors."
Harlson said firefighters were still at the campground as of 9:30 a.m. to confirm all present were removed and accounted for. Neither the L.A. or Ventura county fire department reported any injuries to campers or first responders.
