A former University of Southern California campus gynecologist is set to appear in court Friday for an arraignment on sexual abuse charges.

George Tyndall is expected to enter a plea.

The 76-year-old is charged with 27 felonies that occurred between 2009 and 2016, involving 16 patients. Those charges included 18 counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person and nine counts of sexual battery, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Tyndall pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, KCAL News reported.

In January 2020, a federal judge approved a $215 million class-action settlement between USC and some of Tyndall’s accusers.

If Tyndall is convicted, he could face up to 64 years in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney said.
