CHATSWORTH, Calif. (KNX) – Some residents and commuters say they have had enough of the growing homeless encampments near the Chatsworth Metrolink Station and want city and county officials to do something about it.
One woman told KNX News she’s planning on leaving the area because of the growing issue.
“I kind of am planning on moving out pretty soon and won't be my problem anymore,” she said. “I hate to say it, but I don't know that it's going to get a whole lot better any time soon.”
The problem, people told KNX News, is that when L.A. County crews clear the tents from one side of a fence, the unhouse will moved their tent and then go back and fourth hopping the fence.
“They think they own the place, so they start fights with people over here at the bus stop,” one commuter said.
Another commuter said he’s been threatened.
“I have been threatened several times waiting for the bus and I carry pepper spray now.”
Another issue, commuters and residents say, is that there’s a 24-hour child care center at the train station.
“My children are at this awesome daycare and we don't know what kind of people are here," one man said to KCAL.
L.A. Councilmember John Lee told KABC-7 his office is working to fix the jurisdiction issue, while Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said they’re working with the county’s homeless initiative program to clear off the area.
