LONG BEACH (CNS) - A suspect who allegedly stabbed multiple people in Long Beach was shot by police Tuesday, but there was no immediate word on the person's condition.
The shooting occurred shortly before noon near Second Street and Quincy Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers sent to the location on reports of a stabbing "located the suspect," leading to the shooting, police said.
"There is no current threat to public safety," police said in a statement.
No other details were immediately released by police, who established a large perimeter at the scene at the investigation continued.
The Long Beach Post reported from the scene that the person shot by police was suspected of stabbing four people. Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk told the paper one stabbing victim was taken to a hospital and three others were treated at the scene. Fisk also said a person who had been shot was taken to a hospital.
A resident told the Long Beach Post he was at his home near Livingston Drive and Park Avenue when he heard a commotion coming from nearby Livingston Park, and when he looked over at the park, he saw what appeared to be a man punching someone else continuously while other park-goers screamed.
The man left the scene toward Second Street and eventually, the resident said, he heard multiple gunshots, according to the Long Beach Post.

Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk told City News Service four people were treated at the location for apparent stab wounds, and one was taken to a hospital. The others were treated at the scene. Fisk also said a person who had been shot was taken to a hospital, but there was no word on the person's condition.
