The discovery of human remains in Yucca Valley may be a huge lead in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department search for 30-year-old Lauren Cho, who has been missing in the area since June 28, the department said.

Cho was last seen in early Summer, after investigators say the New Jersey native walked away from the rental house she was staying at in the 8600 block of Benmar Trail in Yucca Valley.

On Saturday, Oct. 9 search teams found unidentified human remains in the rugged terrain of the desert, not far from the AirBnb compound Cho had been staying at.

The remains have been taken to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Division where staff “will work to identify the remains and determine a cause of death” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement, adding that the identification process could take several weeks.

Cho’s ex-boyfriend reported her missing around 5 p.m. on June 28, News Nation Now reported. He told authorities with the SBCSD that they had argued hours before she left their AirBnb.

On a Facebook page created by Cho’s family, they asked the public to refrain from thinking poorly of Cho, who some outlets have said could have been under the influence of alcohol when she disappeared.
