KNX Hero: A 7-year-old with a heart of gold

Los Angeles (KNX) - First-grader Brady Ahumada decided he didn't want presents for his birthday this year. Instead, he wanted to help others - feed the homeless, and give clothes to families in need.

To raise money, he opened a lemonade stand. Brady's mom, Sarah, says the whole community showed their support.

She told KNX reporter Heather Jordan, "We had one successful lemonade stand just for fun. And I thought it was such a big hit; imagine the amount of people who would come out if they knew what he was doing it for."

Special signs were made, and word got out that Brady had the best lemonade in town.

"There were signs on chairs around the house, so people from any direction could just stop and read the signs," said Brady. He even made the process convenient with a 'drive-up' option, so patrons wouldn't need to leave their cars to donate.

And donate they did. Although the cost, according to Brady, was "anything you would like to pay us," the altruistic elixir raked in over $2,000.

Brady decided to host a second lemonade stand a few weeks later, and more than $3,000 was immediately put back into the community. Sarah said they gave out things like popcorn, Gatorade, and hot home-cooked meals.

In addition to joining the ranks of KNX Heroes, Brady, who enjoys his lemonade "super sweet," has also been recognized by his school, the nonprofit Warriors for Children, and even the city of Pomona in a special ceremony before summer break.
