About two years ago, Belen Ramirez got a call that no parent ever wants to receive. Her son Victor was hurt in a severe accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Belen told KNX reporter Heather Jordan, after weeks of treatment and recovery, the team at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center was able to save Victor's life!

But during that time, Belen noticed something - a desperate need for more workers at the hospital.
While they did their best, she said, "for the smallest things, you know, ice packs or bandages - they just didn't have enough staff."
Once her son was on the mend and recovering, Belen thought, "How do you pay back a staff that saved the life of your son?"
So, she contacted the hospital and became a volunteer, and as Belen puts it, "I do all the non-medical, they do all the medical."
From delivering towels and pillows to feeding and holding a hand, Belen does her best to help bring patients comfort so the doctors can focus on saving lives.
Belen loves helping so much she enrolled in a CNA class to become a certified nursing assistant and is now working toward becoming an LPN.
And when people ask her why she doesn't pursue a paid position at the hospital, she replies, "Because that's not the point. I want to give up my time. It's my way of giving back to my community, to the people that help my son."
Volunteer Belen Ramirez says she is amazed by what the team at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is doing, and we are amazed by her - That's why she is our KNX Helpful Honda Hero of the Week.
