"Beauty 2 the Streetz was a product of my trauma," Shirley tells KNX reporter Heather Jordan. "I buried my firstborn child when I was twenty-something years old; that trauma, of course, to this day, follows me around."

After an honest and pivotal conversation with her twin sister, Shirley decided getting involved in a local event to help the homeless might bring her some peace.

While volunteering, the L.A. community gave Shirley's look a lot of love. "The people we were helping were saying, 'we love your hair, we love your makeup,' and I said, 'do you want this? Because I can do this if you want it."'

What started as a bonus for community members stopping by for other services quickly became a thing all its own!

And now, not only can Shirley and her team feed 400+ people, they also offer, "... showers, hair wash and color, makeup, wigs, and most importantly, connection."

The beautification of L.A.'s most vulnerable is in the capable hands of Shirley Raines and her team at Beauty 2 the Streetz, making her more than worthy of the title KNX Hero of the Week!
