LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles City Council voted on Friday to approve small changes to a citywide mandate which took effect earlier this week. The order requires people to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 to enter a variety of indoor business establishments, including restaurants and gyms.

The SafePassLA mandate took effect Nov. 8, but businesses will have until Nov. 29 to fully comply.

Changes enacted by the City Council on Friday included removing "malls and shopping centers" from the list of indoor public spaces requiring proof of vaccination for entry. Mall operators complained that due to multiple points of entry, the mandate would be too difficult and costly to enforce.

The Council has also raised the minimum age affected by the mandate, from 11 to 12. Children younger than 13 will not be required to show proof of vaccination to enter businesses covered by SafePassLA.

Restaurants, bars, gyms, salons, movie theaters, and many other indoor businesses will be required to comply fully with the mandate beginning Nov. 29. A second violation will result in a fin of $1,000; $2,000 for a third; and $5,000 of every thereafter.
