LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles County on Friday announced it would allow businesses to lift indoor mask rules for vaccinated customers.

L.A. County authorities modified an order of Dr. Muntu Davis, County Health Officer, permitting businesses and venues to make indoor masking optional for fully vaccinated patrons only. Businesses may extend the relaxed policy to employees as well, if they choose.

The modified order went into effect immediately after midnight on Friday.

Changes apply to retailers, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, offices, and warehouses.

To qualify for the relaxed protocol, businesses must check that everyone entering the establishment unmasked is either fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or has received a recent negative COVID-19 test result. The test must have been performed within two days of entry if a PCR test, or one day if antigen.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people must continue wearing masks in all indoor public spaces — even if permitted into the establishment with a qualifying negative COVID test result.
