INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KNX) — With less than two weeks before kickoff at SoFi stadium, Los Angeles County health officials shared Wednesday the COVID health and safety guidelines that all fans will be required to follow in order to attend Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13.
Speaking for the thousands of workers who have been unable to work from home for nearly two years, L.A. Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell said masking requirements are important to reduce transmission between fans, but also to keep workers safe.

“Some of these workers will be working here at SoFi Stadium [on Super Bowl Sunday] and have been - handling security, checking tickets, serving food and cleaning up after fans,” Mitchell said.
“From my perspective…masking is a modest requirement that works. Masking doesn’t affect a business’ bottom line and it certainly will not affect the attendance or our enjoyment of the game.”
Despite a recent push from Sup. Kathryn Barger to modify mask mandates, specifically because they have not been strictly enforced, officials said Wednesday that L.A. County will “stay the course.”
“The county of L.A. will develop and implement thoughtful and medically-informed plans to relax masking and other plans when the surge is over,” Mitchell said. “Transmissions are still high, so now is not the time to let down our guard.”
While SoFi Stadium does not expect to limit capacity, it does have several measures in place to meet the county's safety guidelines. All in attendance ages five and up will have to show either proof of vaccination or a negative COVId-19 test.
In addition, staff will be monitoring to remind fans to wear masks when not actively eating or drinking. All ages two and up will be required to wear a mask.
A stadium spokesperson said crews are already working to build a temporary perimeter fence that will allow staff to create a "verification zone" that will serve as step one for fans entering the stadium. In it, staff will check proof of vaccination or negative tests. From there, fans will go through the security checkpoint and then the ticket checkpoint before they are allowed to enter.
