LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Will they or won't they was the biggest question Monday as Angelenos considered whether Los Angeles County health officials would align with the state in regards to face mask guidelines in schools.
They will, the Department of Public Health said in a statement, but they will give individuals districts the right to choose whether or not to downgrade the mask requirement to a recommendation, as updated by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

"L.A. County Public Health will align school masking measures with the state and shift to strongly recommending indoor masking requirements at childcare sites and K-12 schools beginning March 12," the distirict said.
"School districts may continue to require masking at schools and during school activities and are encouraged to consult with teachers, staff, parents and students as they consider the appropriate safety protections for their school community, recognizing that many individuals may want to continue additional protections."
In an updated health guidance shared by Gov. Gavin Newsom’s team, Newsom wrote that masks will no longer be required for unvaccinated individuals beginning on Tuesday, "but will be strongly recommended for all individuals in most indoor settings."
Changes to schools and childcare facilities will be in effect after March 11, which is when mask requirements will turn into mask recommendations.
County health officials said they will continue to review additional changes as state officials announce them, and will update on additional modifications to L.A. County safety measures during Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting.
The meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. To watch with us, click here.
