LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles may soon end its rule requiring patrons to show proof of vaccination to enter many indoor establishments throughout the city.

The ordinance, which went into effect in November, compels people older than 12 to show proof of vaccination before entering restaurants, gyms, entertainment venues, personal care establishments, and some local government buildings.

L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez introduced a motion to lift the mandate as soon as the county relaxes its COVID-19 masking and vaccine-verification requirements.

Martinez’s motion would roll back the mandate, but businesses may still individually require proof of vaccination from customers. If her motion passes, City Attorney Mike Feuer will be directed to write up a new ordinance, which will return to the council for a final vote.

L.A. County dropped its requirement that patrons show proof of vaccination for indoor sections of bars, nightclubs, and other nightlife venues last week.
