LOS ANGELES (KNX) – The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a driver in a street race that led to a deadly hit-and-run in Lake Balboa last weekend.

Around 12:30 a.m. on May 28, the driver of a Tesla encountered a BMW and “engaged in speed racing, traveling westbound Victory Boulevard”, the department said.
The driver of the Tesla lost control and ran off the roadway near Victory Boulevard and Encino Avenue where it hit a light pole and tree.
Police said the driver of the BMW “stopped, and without exiting the vehicle, observed the aftermath of the collision and sped off.”
The identity of the driver in the Tesla has not been revealed, but police described him as a 35-year-old man.
Police said the driver of the BMW is wanted for engaging in speed racing and felony hit-and-run. Although the driver’s description was not made public, the BMW is described by officials as a 2011-2015 M3 or M5 with a modified exhaust and a built-in spoiler.
Anyone with any information on the collision was urged to contact Detective Barragan at 818-644-8028 or Detective Davis at 818-644-8032. Anonymous tips can be placed to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
