L.A., Pasadena schools closed Monday due to Tropical Storm Hilary

Los Angeles Unified School District will close all of its schools on Monday due to Tropical Storm Hilary, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho announced.

“It is not an easy decision to make,” he said during Sunday’s press conference. “We know the impact that [the] closing of schools brings to our community; however, let’s consider this. The peak of this storm will take place in the middle of the night, depriving us of our ability to inspect schools or determine access to school to be safe.”

In addition, athletic activities and activities will also be canceled.

Independent charter schools are also expected to be closed, but Carvalho said parents need to check with individual operators to confirm this.

Families and students that need additional help are asked to call the district’s Family Hotline at (213) 443-1300.

Pasadena Unified School District will also be closed Monday, it was announced Sunday evening.

The Superintendent’s Leadership Team, school administrators, and maintenance and operations workers will have to report to their work sites at 10 a.m. Other employees are instructed to stay home unless they hear otherwise from their supervisors.
