Man posed as police officer, kidnapped kid after hitting him with truck, L.A. police say

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly posed as a police officer and kidnapped a boy he hit with his truck, police said.

It happened Wednesday in the area of Van Nuys Boulevard and Tupper Street around 8 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said 38-year-old Ottoniel Mendoza hit a 13-year-old boy who was riding his bike. Shortly after, Mendoza got out of his car, presented a badge, and told the boy he was a police officer. He directed the boy to his car.

A witness followed the suspect’s truck and called police. Mendoza’s truck was found in the area of Sepulveda Boulevard and Tupper Street.

Mendoza and another man that were in the truck were arrested. The young boy was taken to the hospital for injuries he received from being hit by the truck.

Mendoza was booked for kidnapping, while the second man was released.
