LONG BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — A 29-year-old Compton man arrested by police last week and accused of posing as a rideshare app driver to assault women makes his first court appearance before a judge Thursday morning.
Detectives arrested Demetrio Estrada Tuesday on one count of kidnapping to commit rape and one count of assault with intent to commit a felony sex crime.

The Long Beach Police Department’s Sex Crimes Detail began its investigation in August 2021, when a woman reported she had been assaulted by a man whom she believed was the driver of a rideshare app, driving a silver 2006 Honda Civic.

Estrada is accused of picking up the woman near a bus stop in The Promenade area of Long Beach near First Street, before driving her to a separate location and sexually assaulting her, police said.
Detectives presented their evidence to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who in turn issued a warrant for Estrada’s arrest.
Estrada was booked at the Long Beach City Jail, where he is currently being held on $2.2 million bail, according to sheriff’s inmate records. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 10.
Detectives believe Estrada “routinely frequents” entertainment districts in Long Beach and encouraged any additional victims to come forward.
