LOS ANGELES (KNX) - On Wednesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced he bussed a group of migrants to Los Angeles' Union Station, writing, “LA is a city migrants seek to go to, particularly now its leaders approved its self-declared sanctuary status.”

One week prior, California officials said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration flew three dozen migrants to Sacramento on private planes.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told KNX News In Depth she believes both governors are sending out migrants to California for “political reasons” and that its in response to the vote that City Council took to declare Los Angeles as a sanctuary city.

“I understand that they are overwhelmed (at the border) but they are doing this for political reasons,” she said. “They did it specifically to punish Los Angeles because of the vote that the city council took, and what I think is particularly egregious is to use a group of vulnerable people in this manner.”

Bass noted that many of those who arrived last night had connections in Southern California.

“…There is a very strong network of community-based organizations and faith institutions that were ready to receive the group that came. The other good news is that the majority of them had family to connect with in Los Angeles,” she said. “I know there, there were a few that didn't.”

The Immigrant Defenders Law Center offered assistance to the migrants who arrived, as did representatives of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights and Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.
