LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A motion to rename a Boyle Heights street after Mexican singer Vicente Fernández was introduced at a Los Angeles City Council meeting on Wednesday.

Councilmember Kevin de León introduced the motion, according to KTLA. If passed, Bailey Street would instead be named after Fernández, who died in December.

“The street to be named in his honor is appropriately adjacent to the L.A. historic Mariachi Plaza,” De Leon said.

Throughout his career, Fernández received three Grammys and nine Latin Grammys.
