North Hollywood off-ramp rear-end crash kills 2, hospitalizes baby

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A collision at a North Hollywood off-ramp left two people dead and two others, including an infant, hospitalized.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department it happened in the 11400 block of Magnolia Boulevard, at the bottom of the State Route 170 offramp near N. Tujunga Avenue, just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Footage from the scene showed one of the two vehicles completely overturned onto its roof, surrounded by debris in the roadway.

A Honda Fit rear-ended a Toyota stopped at the red light, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Fit overturned and collided with a signal pole.

Two of the injured patients, a 40-year-old male and a 35-year-old female, were trapped in the wreckage of their vehicle and were freed by LAFD crews utilizing hydraulic-powered tools.  The Fit driver and female passenger were both hospitalized, where they were pronounced dead.

The 10-month-old infant was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toyota driver was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
