Officials said the layout of the small recording studios in the smoke-filled building made it “extremely challenging to navigate and crawl through in zero visibility.”

“Additionally, the studios had sound deadening thick walls, extra insulation, double drywall, and thick windows,” the department said. “While this design was intended to keep the sound from escaping, it also excelled at keeping the smoke and heat from escaping.”

One person was found dead by fire crews inside the building.
The victim’s identity has not been publicly released at this time.

Two people reported respiratory issues that were related to smoke exposure, but were treated at the scene and then released.

It took fire crews 51 minutes to destroy the flames.

Sharon Osbourne, media personality and wife of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, said in a post on Instagram her daughter, Aimee, and her daughter’s producer made it out of the building alive.

“It is utterly heartbreaking that someone lost their life today in this fire & we are sending our prayers to this person & their family,” she said.

Osbourne then called for better regulation for fire safety.

“What happened today was beyond horrific. I really hope moving forward that buildings like this are better regulated for fire safety,” she said. “This building was a creative hub for music in Hollywood, a space that should have been regulated for fire code.”
