A single-engine plane crash-landed into a roof at Long Beach Airport Monday afternoon, and the pilot was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Aerial footage shows the plane upside down on the roof of a hangar on the south side of the airport. Jake Heflin with the Long Beach Fire Department told KNX News that the pilot was the only person hurt.

“The pilot was up and walking around when our units arrived on scene, and we were able to provide support assistance on getting him down and evaluating him,” he said.

Heflin said there was no active fire during the crash, and approximately 45 gallons of fuel leaking from the plane into the building were quickly mitigated by fire crews. The airport’s commercial operations weren’t affected by the crash, and all the runways remained open.

“We’re just really grateful that the situation was not any worse than what it was,” Heflin said.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.
